About David Tyson

Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, I got my start working as an electrical helper with my father’s company, United Electric Company of Jacksonville. My senior year of high school, I worked as an usher/projectionist for United Artists Theatre Circuit at The Movies at Regency Theatre. My experience working in the exhibition industry would provide me with useful insights that would later yield dividends. After high school I spent four years working as an electrical apprentice with Northeast Florida Builders Association (NEFBA) and United Electric. Four years into the program, I decided to change career paths and pursue a career in aviation. After graduating from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Studies I started David Tyson Lighting, Inc., to sell light bulbs to the exhibition industry (movie theatres). The business was successful and quickly grew to over a million dollars a year in sales. With the spate of theatre chains filing for bankruptcy protection, I decided to change the focus of the business to e-commerce and BulbTown.com was born.
